Its scientific name, Urtica, comes from the Latin verb urere meaning “to burn”, because of the skin burning sensation caused by contact with the plant – a property that exists to protect it, but is also the origin of its beneficial properties. Nettle is a herbaceous plant that grows in soil rich in nitrates, which give the plant the distinctive properties that make it so exceptional. Part of our nettle originates from wild populations of the species that grows in the region of Epirus. Our nettle is collected by hand, so as not to damage the sensitive plant stems.
